Cameroon Teacher Workshop

In January 2020, a 2 day workshop was held with 10 teachers from the Lycée Classic de Mfou on the Climate Smart Cocoa Production teaching material. Three collaborators from PHLU were present. The first day focussed on sustainable cocoa production, addressing the question “What is the best form of cocoa farming that both generates high yields and is climate-friendly and sustainable?” The second day focussed on socio-economic factors of cacao production addressing the question How do farmers realities in cocoa production look like and how do they experience wider socio-economic production processes? Participants included teachers with administrative functions (exam organization, study program and teaching schedules), the school principle and 4 people from the local Red Cross section.

The workshop was dedicated to the following objectives:
• Presentation of the SAS4SD project, history of content and didactics development (retrospect on previous visits, implicated actors)
• Discussion of wider contextual framework (SDG’s, actors' expectations)
• Introduction to topics and didactical approaches
• Questionnaires on teachers evaluation about the material
• Practical exercises with the material

The teachers showed great interest in the topics and the didactical approaches used. The necessity of teaching context relevant topics as well as using new methodologies were expressed.
