Waste Management

Waste management at St Monica's Senior High School is categorised into three facets:

  1. Incineration: paper products are burned in an incinerator.
  2. Composting: biodegradable waste is turned into organic fertilizers which are used in organic farming on the school grounds. The proceeds from the farming will be used for students' meals. The compost shed is currently about 80% complete.
  3. Plastic waste management is through recycling: transparent poly bags are placed on school grounds and in each classroom for the collection of used sachets and plastics. Every Friday the contents of the poly bags are rebagged into maxi transparent bags which are then sold. The proceeds from the sale of these plastics will be used to pay the labourers working at the compost shed.
